Day 13 - Saturday 12th July

Today we took Mum for a walk around Knaresborough in the morning and had a nanna nap in the afternoon before setting off for the gig. Brought some Papa John's pizza for dinner which was delicious.

We set off a bit early at around 6:30 to allow for any traffic. The Pub the guys were playing in was the Volunteer Arms in York. It was a typically smallish English pub. The guys collectively known as King Courgette seemed to take up half the space!

Once they had set up the sound we were able to get a closer seat. I introduced Mandy, Graham and Mum to Alfred, Mick, Billy, Time and Si. Alfred spoke glowingly about Wendy musicianship (as she was not there at the time).

What an energetic night!! The guys kicked off at a million miles an hour and never let up. All the guys were great but Alfred on the fiddle and Billy with his washboard, cymbal, bones, triangle and feet were just amazing. I took a few vids and hope to link a couple from this page when I get myself organized.

Once they were into the second set they got Wendy up to play with them. I felt for Wen as she had not had a chance to warm up and they started at a breakneck pace. She did an absolutely sterling job. I got up for a couple Angelina Baker and Spanish Ladies/Spotted Pony. It was a real buzz with Billy doing some clogging as well.

On the left is King Courgette doing a "Cajun" number. The interplay in the beginning is in reference to the Tour de France which ran through Yorkshire the weekend before.

On the right is Wendy and myself playing with Alfred Billy and Mick (Billy is doing some clogging!). We are playing a combo of 2 tunes Spanish Ladies/Spotted Pony.
