<title>Next Workshop</title>
	<link>http://www.fingerstyle.com.au/workshops/workshop.html</link>
	<description>
Next workshop 21st June - 1:00 to 3:30 pm - Computer Skills for Musicians. All about getting the most out of your computer as a budding musician. I'll have several computers set up and you'll be working in small teams - hands on the mouse about 30% of the time. We'll be going over things like ripping tracks from CDs into mp3 format then slowing the tracks down so you can hear specific instruments. Creating folders and managing music files. Attaching large numbers of mp3's to emails to share with friends, and burning them onto sampler cds. Using a downloaded reader, how to hear the notes that appear on the tablature so you know how the tune goes before starting to play. Transcribing words from CDs using 2 progams at once, putting in chords and printing out the songsheet, and, finally, using software that creates a backing band to make music when there's no-one else to play with! (Big incentive to practice!) Includes afternoon tea. Email Wendy for more details.

<title>Young Musos Off to China</title>
	<link>http://www.fingerstyle.com.au/newsdesk/index.html</link>
	<description>
Sunshine Coast has a twin city in China, Xiamxian (pronounced Shamshan).
Young classical and rock musicians from high schools on the Sunshine Coast are off to China in June as part of an exchange visit organised by Sunshine Coast Sister Cities Committee; among them, Fingerstyle banjo student, Angus Takashimi. Students and friends of Fingerstyle held a bluegrass bash to support this event. Pickers came from as far north as Childers, and as far south as Ipswich. One guy raced across town in his lunch hour. We asked Angus if he would be taking his own banjo but he said no, they make banjos in China.

<title>Wendy Holman designs new frailing scoop</title>
	<link>http://www.banjostore.fingerstyle.com.au/banjos.html</link>
	<description>
	WHITE SWALLOW OLD TIMEY - Fingerstyle model. Two experts have worked together to produce this delightful and unique banjo! Wendy Holman has designed a sensuous new shape! The Fingerstyle 'Lazy S' frailing scoop retains fretmetal at the 1st and 2nd strings (where we need those high notes) but curves away at the bass allowing greater freedom for the frailing thumb.

<title>Polish Picker Chose Australian
</title>
<link>http://www.fingerstyle.com.au/newsdesk/index.html</link>
	<description>
Peter Slapa bought the Maton EBG808 Custom Artist through Fingerstyle and is delighted. "I've been playing guitar for 8 years, but it all began in May 2005, when I first heard great Tommy Emmanuel. I used to play electric, but now I play only acoustic mostly fingerstyle. I'm a guitar teacher, I write guitar lessons to Polish guitar magazine "Gitarzysta" http://www.magazyngitarzysta.pl/ and I play gigs - solo or with vocalist. It's really hard to make money in Poland by playing music and do it for a living. I also study social psychology, but I want to stay with music - what can I say... l love it! I have a CD but it's unofficial, only for my promotion, not for sale. I love blues, country, jazz, rock music and I know some Australian guitarist like Kieran Murphy, Bruce Mathiske, Michael Fix - they are great! By the way, I played my first gig on new Maton on sunday. This guitar is a real treasure, it sounds better than all Matons I have played on!

<title>Great Book for Jam Sessions</title>
<link>http://www.fingerstyle.com.au/newsdesk/index.html</link>
	<description>
Fingerstyle recommends "The Parking Lot Pickers Songbook". Over 225 great bluegrass, oldtime and gospel songs. 2 sampler CDs included demonstrate a verse and chorus of each song. Parking Lot Pickers (now affectionately named around our area, PLP!) is available in 3 editions, guitar, mandolin and banjo. Banjo edition has an added bonus - check out the electrifying back-up banjo of Bill Evans. Neither Dix nor Bill are going to win awards for their vocals but hey, they're in tune and the recordings are clear and well-balanced. Top effort guys! (A Mel Bay publication - available from your local music shop for about $60.)
